Frequently asked questions

Does Radishy work offline?

Yes. All 175 plant species and planting data are bundled in the app. After installation no internet connection is required. Optional iCloud sync uses Apple's CloudKit and is encrypted on Apple's infrastructure.

Why does Radishy ask for my location?

We use your approximate location once to determine your climate zone (Tropical, Subtropical, Temperate or Cool) and frost dates. Your location is never sent to our servers and is stored only on your device.

How does the 14-day trial work?

On first install you get full Pro access. The trial steps down progressively: full Pro for the first 5 days, lightly limited for days 6–10, more limited for days 11–14, then reverts to Free. Your data is never deleted at any stage.

What are the Free limits?

Free includes 2 plot gardens (pots and containers are unlimited), 20 essential plant species (tomato, lettuce, basil, carrot, cucumber, zucchini, spinach, mint, beans, capsicum, radish, parsley, strawberry, onion, chilli, potato, broccoli, rosemary, peas, kale), 3 photos per plant, and 2 months of calendar view. Pro unlocks all 175 species, unlimited gardens and photos, and full-year calendar.

Can I cancel my subscription?

Yes, anytime. Open Settings → your Apple ID → Subscriptions on iOS to manage. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period.

What happens to my garden data if I downgrade to Free?

Nothing is deleted. Free mode is read-only beyond the limits. Your full garden, photos, and history remain on your device and re-appear instantly if you re-subscribe.

How is Radishy different from Planta or Gardenize?

Planta is built for indoor pot plants — its strength is plant identification and a smart watering algorithm. Gardenize is a cross-hemisphere journal with 45,000 species but no climate-aware scheduling. Radishy sits in a different lane: a garden planner first, with a southern-hemisphere planting calendar, AU/NZ-specific frost dates, and a harvest log that compounds across seasons. We don't try to identify your monstera. We help you plan and run a backyard food garden.

Why no AI plant identification?

Plant ID needs a server: the model is too large to ship in an app bundle. Adding it would mean uploading photos to a third-party service, which contradicts our local-first promise. If you need ID, the iOS Photos app's 'Look Up' feature already does it well, for free, with on-device intelligence on iOS 17+. We'd rather double down on planning, watering and harvest tooling — the things gardeners do for years, not seconds.

Does Radishy run on iPad?

Yes. The same app, same subscription. The garden grid view especially benefits from the larger canvas — you can lay out a 4m × 3m raised bed without zooming. Apple Universal Purchase means buying once on iPhone covers iPad.

Why no Android version?

Two of us work on Radishy. Building well for one platform is doable; doing it for two means halving the depth of both. iOS-first lets us ship native widgets, ScreenTime-aware notifications, ShareLink integration and Live Activities without reaching for a cross-platform framework that would compromise the feel. We may revisit this if there's loud demand from the AU/NZ Android market.

Will my plant data sync between iPhone and iPad?

If you're signed into the same iCloud account on both devices and you have iCloud Drive enabled for Radishy in Settings, yes — automatically and end-to-end encrypted on Apple's infrastructure. We never see the data, store it, or sync through our own servers. If you don't want sync, turn iCloud off for Radishy and the app stays purely on-device.
